Running my own business, I needed to have instant web access to check email. I run a print and design business and employed two web designers and three graphic designers.

We were a small tight community that worked long hard hours to get our business established. We were proud of the work that we did and of any finished product we produced. Our client data base was purely word of mouth and so far we had done no marketing.

We knew things were changing and we needed to do some web based marketing and also direct email marketing. Everybody has web access now a days and most people would carry out an on-line search to find the things they want. We needed our business to move with the times and market online. Surely we were in the right business to do this quickly and accurately.

Having web access was a priority for all of my staff and we started to gather some information together by carrying out an on-line search of all companies in our area offering the same service. We checked out prices by sending ananonymous email requesting quotes.

We kept a spreadsheet of all prices, turn around and how long it took each company to get back to us. This gave us a good idea of our targets. We had prices of each company so we could be competitive and knew how long it took them to complete the work so as long as we could do it quicker, hopefully we would get the new business.

Next we needed our business to first in any on-line search and to do this, we needed our key words to be perfect. It took us a long time to come up with these words but we did and after two weeks we were number one a google search. Now all as we needed was the work to start to come.

Our business was our priority and we marketed not only on the internet but with leaflets and flyer's. Even though this is our trade it cost us a lot of money to set this up but was worth it as we have never been busier and our internet trade has overtook our in house client data base.
